Curious Abstraction is an exhibition focusing on the work of three New Orleans based abstract painters. Dumestre has a background in fashion merchandising but is new to the world of canvas and brush. She focuses primarily on movement and color, drawing out emotion from each brush stroke to the next. Eugene Weber has lived in New Orleans since 1981 and has created a breadth of work that set the groundwork for his peers to draw from. He creates work that is the product of exploration and discovery. Curiosity leads to development of color, composition, texture and surface. Rodriguez draws her patterns and themes from world culture, ethnic textiles, and the harmonious colors reflected from nature. Each artist is self trained and contributes a unique and important perspective to the conversation of where abstract painting stands within the contemporary art community.
