Cathedrals (series of 6)

Mixed Media/ Wood

12″ x 8″

These cathedral doors are a representation of New Orleans architecture and religious history. Daniel has spent many hours studying his surroundings and each detail on these works reflects a detail of the many churches and cathedrals throughout the city. They are sculptural work that bring Lopez’s body of work into the third dimension and demonstrate his artistic range.

Daniel Lopez currently resides in Louisiana and this will be his first gallery show in the state. He has previously shown in his home country of Cuba, Miami, and  has works housed at the Spanish Embassy in the Ukraine. Daniel creates his work through the affirmation of the redemptive power of art. He feels a strong constant need of interaction with the community, formulating concepts based upon a multitude of viewpoints. Present in his work are motifs of human struggle and triumph. To spend time with Lopez’s work is to get lost in his world of wonder and self-exploration, with the rewarding journey of decoding symbols and digging at the stops along the road to where the artist finds himself.

Originally from Cuba, his work serves as a bridge between diverse cultural backgrounds. While studying at the Academy of Arts in Trinidad, Cuba he developed a passion for abstraction and figurative painting. Since then he has experimented with sculpture, and design. Being open to different art experiences has given him a broad perspective in the arts allowing himself to mix different techniques to create his unique well-recognized style.

Change exists in the landscape all around us everyday. This Spring in New Orleans there was a great freeze after a relatively warm winter, turning many of the subtropical greens to brown. ‘Warm Earth’ reflects on that ecological event by juxtaposing the yellow and browning leaves with the saturated green ones, along with bright red lines and a burning Mississippi atop.
